My background and philosophy

Hello and welcome, my name is Svetlana, I am a certified yoga and meditation teacher with 13 years of teaching experience and over 11000 hours taught. I am Norwegian and live in Verbier, Switzerland.

I studied yoga with Duncan Wong, Andrei Siderski and doctor Elena Voyce for the last 13 years, meditation with Lama Changchub, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, Khandro Rinpoche and Ringu Tulku at the Tibetan Buddhist temple in Oslo for over 10 years, anatomy with Tom Myers and Robert Schleip and many other healing and energy arts with exceptional teachers. I also studied Wushu and Taiji, Chinese martial arts, with Shifu Yan Fei and Kim Gibson in Oslo and was a member of the Norwegian National Wushu Team.

My main mission is to help everyone I meet be happy, healthy, inspired and live a long fulfilling life. Since I can remember, I have always been driven by questions like Who am I?, What is the true nature of reality?, and How can I best realize my full potential and help others?. While answering these questions for myself, I have been training and studying relentlessly for most of my conscious life. The accumulated results from this practice I now offer to my students. Since my personal practice constantly evolves, the methods and knowledge that I share evolve, too. One thing is for sure, that I only teach what I have seen, experienced, practiced, realized and mastered myself first. I believe that only when I have walked the path myself first, I can share the roadmap to this path with others, to encourage growth and help avoid mistakes.

My intention and methods

Achieving longevity and maintaining good mental and physical health are the main intentions behind all I practice and teach. You deserve to be seen and heard fully, and I find that private classes and small groups work best to create loving, healing, supportive and safe environment for trauma release, growth and transformation of each individual. Every class is always centered around YOU: your needs, intentions, physical and mental abilities, goals, visions and wishes. Healing and transformation are a gentle, loving process, like caring for a child or a flower. It takes time and steady, happy, continuous effort and much love and patience.

I believe that everyone has an immense potential for greatness and a birthright to have a happy, healthy, long and fulfilling life. I also believe that a human body can live until at least 150 years in good health. A human being is a miracle of nature where everything is deeply interconnected. That’s why in my classes we look at the bodymind as a whole and work with a wide range of topics: mental attitude, thoughts, beliefs, traumas stuck in the body, nutrition, habits, sleep, posture, and so on. We walk the path of gradual transformation together through the means of physical yoga practice, meditation, conversations, somatic exercises, breathing exercises, deep myofascial release of the body and facial muscles, Gua Sha techniques for self massage, qigong exercises, and many other healing techniques.

What is yoga

Yoga is an ancient, complete and effective all round way to develop our consciousness, a tool to fine-tune our bodymind to be more effective in whatever we do in our daily lives.

The most ancient, to our knowledge, text on yoga, Yoga Sutra, says: "Yoga stops the mind from turning around." In another ancient text, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the author Svatmarama clearly states: "Only for Raja yoga purpose Hatha yoga makes sense... Hatha yoga is a staircase to Raja yoga."

Hatha means force, effort in Sanskrit. Hatha yoga is the name for any physical yogic exercises. It is a way to fine-tune the body and mind over time through stable, joyful effort in physical poses, with breathing techniques and cleansing exercises. Raja yoga means the highest state of yoga. It is a state of detachment and accomplishment, when the mind "stops turning around". This quietness of the mind is not an enlightenment in and on itself, but is a good starting point for whatever you intend to achieve further.

I combine different yogic traditions in my personal practice and teaching, with the main focus on the healing and mastery of the mind. With this approach, all the benefits of the physical practice (like good health, long life, well functioning organs, flexibility, balance, strength, etc) happen as a pleasant side effect of regular consistent practice.

YOGA TEACHER TRAINING 200 HOURS

I believe that all knowledge is ever given to us to be shared. That's why I created several programs to help you share your yogic knowledge and skills with others. And only by sharing it with others you truly start to understand it's depth.

The first program is the traditional foundational YOGA TEACHER TRAINING 200 HOURS. In this program we cover all the basics of being a yoga teacher: yoga history, philosophy, main scriptures, anatomy, fascia, biomechanics, Sanskrit basics, mantras, mudras, meditation, breathing anatomy and techniques, subtle body structure, energy centres, brain and brainwaves, teaching methodology, alignment basics, adjustments basics.

There is much valuable information in this Yoga Teacher Training program. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t grasp it all at once. It took me years to collect it all, and it might take some time of patient practice and experience for you to reveal layers upon layers of all the knowledge here. This is a part of the quest.

And no matter what path you will choose afterwards – either teaching directly or teaching by your life’s example, it is my biggest hope that we can collectively remember what the masters always say: Show up. Keep showing up. Share. Inspire. Be inspired… Let us not become the final end, the broken link of what so many generations of masters have been passing through all these millennia in a continuous uninterrupted way from teacher to disciple.

Don’t be the last in line.

TEACHING LAB - 2 WEEKS INTENSIVE

200 hours Teacher training is usually a foundation, a beginning of the teaching path. It is also too short time to embrace all the details and nuances of the teaching methodology. Newly educated yoga teachers usually struggle with starting to teach actual real people in real life situations. That's why I created a special program to help new teachers gain confidence.

This program is highly practical and interactive, with many hours of teaching in a safe group environment and lots of practical methodology tips, skills and feedback. I called it Teaching lab, and it's an intensive two weeks course to help you bridge the gap after completing any Yoga teacher training you've done and before teaching real life group classes.

This program covers all possible scenarios and student types. We look at how to teach different levels of abilities, age, gender, stages of life, special requests and other scenarios that I have encountered during the 13 years of nonstop teaching. We will look at all possible challenges of being a yoga teacher, psychology, learn ways to build a class, sequencing, pace, cueing and how to find your own teaching style. And also learn tools for your personal energy protection and recovery, and your personal training separately from teaching.

ADJUSTMENTS LAB - 2 WEEKS INTENSIVE

Adjustments and assists are advanced skills of a quality yoga teacher. Quite often overlooked in a traditional teacher training program because of lack of time and student abilities, this skill will make you stand out and raise your teaching level to new heights, helping your clients achieve their practice goals.

Seeing is a touch at the distance, said Ida Rolf and Tom Myers. In this 2 week intensive training program we start by mastering Body Reading skills as taught by Tom Myers, the author of the Anatomy Trains manual on myofascial lines. With this understanding of what fascia is and how it works, we then look at the lines of base, stabilisers and action in each pose to learn when, how, and where to touch a student.

We learn the difference between adjustments and assists, and several ways of adjusting both in group classes and with private clients. We practice verbal cues, visual cues and touch. We also learn the skill of not to touch when needed. In this intensive we practice a lot, and also look at how to teach private clients.

Facial massage

Floral Sketch Flower Illustration

Excessive mimics, chewing patterns, stress and lifestyle create changes in the tone of the facial muscles. These changes create deformities, wrinkles, sagging, fibrosis, cause lack of nutrients in the skin and poor blood supply. My facial rejuvenation classes are not typical face yoga classes where you exercise already overactive muscles. We do the opposite: relax and release, to allow skin to tighten up naturally, restoring the youthful appearance. In these classes we combine deep myofascial release of the face muscles, Gua Sha application techniques, self intraoral massage, release of neck and shoulders, correction of posture and application of kinesiology tapes.

The benefits of the facial release techniques are so many: restoration of the facial shape and the jawline, release of water retention and correction of the double chin, smoothing the wrinkles and the nasolabial folds, eyebrows lift and smoothing the forehead, improvement of the facial color, texture and smoothness, and other good visible changes of the face without surgery or injections, cleansing of the intercellular space from the metabolic waste, regeneration of the facial tissues, removing of the fibrosis and evening out the facial relief, restoration of the elasticity and resilience of the tissues, reduction of the bone resorption - the leading cause of the facial deformation with age, and deep psycho emotional relaxation.

Testimonials

“Svetlana is a fully certified Yogic Arts teacher. I have personally trained her over the past decade to what I consider to be an advanced level, with a personal note that Svetlana has an inherent gift to excel in the healing field and an impressive ability to pierce through the outer limitations of structure and penetrate the deeper meaning and connection between movements and theory. I recommend her with my full authority as a respected teacher in the global yogic field during the past three decades.”

Yoga master Duncan Wong

"What I feel is unique is Svetlana's ability to recognize all these tiny mistakes and her way of correcting them. In my experience she has excellent knowledge about my body and what it can do. She is also fantastic at being aware of the different levels and needs of her students, both one to one and in groups, and tailors her lessons accordingly. As well as Svetlana's professional skills, as a person she is very easy to like, she is positive, open and approachable. I would strongly recommend Svetlana to anybody who wants to work with an inspiring teacher to improve their wellbeing. "

Malin Enocson

Practicing with Svetlana for years has brought me an incredible knowledge about my own body as I started gaining in strength and mobility. Her classes have been the key to progressing in freeride skiing and mountain biking. As soon as a class starts, she takes me into a nice relaxed state and keeps flowing, entertaining my mind with fun facts about the yogic culture. Love spending time on th emat with her!

Elise Beuf

"Svetlana's Hâta yoga teacher training program is structured in such a way that it will prepare you to overcome all doubts of your personal yoga practice and ultimately, yoga teaching. She is very attentive on every detail of the body alignment and inner strength, that i have found out being the fundamental to let our own energy flow correctly in our body and mind. She is ultimately preparing me to a highest level of yoga, and I'm very glad to have undertaken this path with her."

“It may seem strange that I am writing this testimonial as I do not practice yoga (yet).

I spent last ski season in Verbier while recovering from pneumonia and with two small injured dogs. I was very fortunate to be introduced to Svetlana and saw her every day while she took care of the dogs recovery in between her yoga practice. Svetlana clearly demonstrates in her life a highly developed consciousness and connection with herself, all beings and the environment. Svetlana definitely practices what she preaches! I return to Verbier this season and will now start to practice yoga.”

Artworks

I am a self taught artist and started painting in 2022. To me, a blank piece of paper is pure unexpressed magic where every possibility exists.

Every painting is a meditative journey to self discovery and, through this, also a discovery of the world.

Watercolor fascinates me a lot because water lives it’s own life and has own ways of moving. The painting process is a collaboration of my efforts and skills with the unpredictable nature of flowing water.

The result always turns out to be something new, it’s an interplay of the elements guided by my intention. From these elements something that is far beyond my personal abilities and will is born. To me this is real magic.
